Making Money Secrets

*Methodological note: From March until July, American Crossroads was registered as a 527 organization and reporting to the Internal Revenue Service. At the end of July, it registered with the Federal Election Commission as a "Super PAC" -- officially an "independent expenditure-only committee" -- and began reporting to them. The move came after the commission issued guidance to groups in light of federal court rulings in cases that loosened prior restrictions on fund-raising from corporations for use in political messages, including SpeechNow.org v. Federal Election Commission and Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. Between the time American Crossroads first registered with the IRS and the time it first began reporting to the FEC, it raised and spent $1.4 million that it only reported to the IRS. The numbers in this article include contributions reported to the IRS as well as the FEC.

As you all know, that mashed-up bag of gas with pancake make-up on it Keith Olbermann has been “suspended indefinitely” by MSNBC for making and failing to disclose political contributions to three Democrats — including open-borders Democrat Rep. Raul Grijalva, whom he hosted on the same day he forked over a donation.

Unlike Fox News (pay attention, Media Matters Soros-bots), NBC ethics guidelines (yes, they do have them) bar their employees from making political contributions. (FNC’s real-world, pro-free speech rules allow donations as long “as long as the activity does not interfere with or impair the performance of the employee’s duties for the Company.”)

Politico got the scoop on Olbermann’s donations to Grijalva, AZ Democrat Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, and failed Kentucky Democrat Senate candidate Jack Conway by sifting through FEC records.

Bill Kristol is rallying conservatives to support Olbermann.

MSNBC’s suspension of Keith Olbermann is ludicrous. First, he donated money to candidates he liked. He didn’t take money, or favors, in a way that influenced his reporting. Second, he’s not a reporter. It’s an opinion show. If Olbermann wants to put his money where his mouth is, more power to him.Republicans of the world, show you believe in the free expression of opinion! Tell the crony corporatists at NBC—keep Keith!

Pardon my MSNBC-like incivility, but are you freaking kidding me? Hoping Kristol’s tongue is firmly planted in cheek, but plenty of people are taking him seriously.

Olbermann railed against FNC in August for its corporate donations while whitewashing NBC/GE’s:

On the August 17 edition of ‘Countdown,’ host Keith Olbermann used the donations to do the only thing he’s capable of doing: criticizing Fox News.

“We now have another million reasons why Fox News is the Republican news channel, correct?” Olbermann asked Media Matters president Eric Burns.

Olbermann said that GE, MSNBC’s parent company, donated an equal amount of money to both the DGA and RGA. He didn’t mention, however, that according to OpenSecrets.org, in 2008, 100 percent of MSNBC Cable’s donations went to Democrats and 99 percent of NBC’s donations went to Democrats.

Additionally, so far in 2010, 100 percent of ABC News’s donations have gone to Democrats and CBS Corporation’s PAC has contributed $51,000 to Democrats in 2010.

The Media Research Center previously noted News Corp.’s donations favored Democrats and that other outlets critical of the donation, such as Viacom’s Comedy Central, have all given substantial money to Democrats, yet there is no outrage over their political contributions.

Olbermann’s sanctimony and hypocrisy only compound his core failure to disclose the donations before Election Day — especially during the show in which he hosted one of the beneficiaries of that cash.

REP. RAUL GRIJALVA (D), ARIZONA: Good to talk to you, my friend.

OLBERMANN: Is there anything you can tell us about the relationship between these private prisons and the lawmakers who supported this monstrosity of a bill?

GRIJELVA: It is a wonderful I told you so moment. But, at the same time, we”ve been battered for the six months for our opposition to 1070, not just myself but others. And we don”t know how much they”ve contributed to these independent expenditure campaigns, the private prison industry.

But you used the word citizens. It”s disgusting, cynical and disgusting that they were bragging about there”s going to be more women and children detained, so therefore this is a market for us.

And the fact of the matter is Russell Pearce and Jan Brewer made a decision to put this law in effect. It had had nothing to do with border security. It had nothing to do with the security of the state. It had to do with the profit line.

And, you know, I”m glad that NPR did this. I”m glad “In These Times” did that. Finally, it”s catching some attention. But it comes at the end of a campaign when many of us have been battered for six months because of our opposition to 1070.

It is–you used the word cynical. It is past cynical. It is using

a very tough situation in the state of Arizona when it comes to immigration

using it to make a profit and using people, when we should be talking about how you we”re going to reform this law. It”s unbelievable.

OLBERMANN: It”s almost extraordinary to believe that once we got past the original phony reason for it, which was security at the border, when obviously it didn”t pertain to that whatsoever, that the real reason behind that was well, this is to intimidate people of Hispanic descent. Well, it turns out there”s an even more base, cynical reason behind it.

Am I wrong about this? When they talk about making money, it”s not–they”re not talking about people who are going to be in jail because they”ve been convicted of anything. This would be making money off people who are held and then found to have violated no laws, correct? They make money whether something”s guilty or innocent, correct?

GRIJALVA: It”s filling beds and spaces, period. It”s about detention. It”s about building private prisons, filling them, taking a profit from the federal government, and with that profit continuing to expand the bottom line. The advisers for Jan Brewer are part of this. The people that wrote the law for Russell Pearce of part of this. They”re all going to make millions of dollars off of this.

What expense? The division in Arizona, the division across this country. They get to go blithely walk away with their money, leaving behind the kind of social mess they”ve left all over this country. It is for me one of the most corrupt political acts. Because you use people. You use the emotions involved and you make a profit.

OLBERMANN: I can”t insure your house for fire, because legally that would give me a motivation for wanting to see your house catch fire. I mean, the idea of private prisons–suddenly, we see the flaw in that idea, too, that if they”re private prisons run for profit, there”s going to be a motive to put people in prison who don”t belong there.

GRIJALVA: That and the private prison industry here in Arizona has a wonderful test case. Murderers escaped from a private public. They haven”t escaped from a public prison. That”s Jan Brewer”s agenda. That is the extreme right”s agenda here.

I think–I hope people–I think people in Arizona are now seeing through the cloud and realizing that this is not just about immigration. This is not just about border security. There”s an insidious reason we”re involved in this really tough, tough issue. That is that somebody is making money off of it.

OLBERMANN: Lastly, any idea why the governor is going to San Francisco?

GRIJALVA: Well, she hasn”t debated. She wants to avoid the questions that are pressing about her relationship to this private prison industry and why they wrote the law. The people on her staff that are running her campaign and her chief of staff, I”m assuming that she wants to avoid those questions.

OLBERMANN: Congressman Raul Grijalva of Arizona, it”s always a pleasure and an education. I”m sorry it”s always about something like this. Thanks for your time.

GRIJALVA: Thank you.

Olby’s defenders say it’s wrong to punish opinion journalists for supporting candidates and causes.

But:

1) MSNBC has always promoted and allowed Olbermann to preen as an award-winning journalist and broadcaster of Edward R. Murrow’s caliber — above the fray and superior to the rest of us in the print/broadcast media who are open and honest about our political and ideological biases.

2) Whatever NBC’s guidelines may be, it was the basic journalistic failure of the Murrow wanna-be to disclose the donation on the night he hosted one of his cash recipients that seals his fate and undermines whatever iota of credibility his station has left.

Good night and good riddance.

Flashback 2007:

HOW many times over the years have we seen mainstream media elites get on their high horse about their unbending commitment to objectivity?

Wear ribbons after the 9/11 attacks? Heavens, no, the news poobahs swooned. Stacey Woelfel, news director at KOMU-TV in Columbia, Mo., directed his staff to “leave the ribbons at home” to show viewers “that in no way are we influenced by the government in informing the public.”

Display the flag during wartime? Heavens, no, cried the dinosaur networks. ABC News spokesman Jeffrey Schneider told The Washington Post: “Especially in a time of national crisis, the most patriotic thing journalists can do is to remain as objective as possible . . . We cannot signal how we feel about a cause, even a justified and just cause, through some sort of outward symbol.”

And dole out political cash while on the job? Heavens, n-oh, wait a minute. That unbending commitment to neutrality is really nothing but a Wetzel’s pretzel.

Despite all the past protestations about the need to avoid outward signs of partiality, we now learn that journalists in America’s top newsrooms overwhelmingly donate to Democrat causes and candidates (shocker!) – and that they’ve been giving despite clear prohibitions and conflicts of interest.

MSNBC.com’s Bill Dedman found 144 journalists who’d made political donations to candidates, parties and causes from 2004 through the start of the 2008 campaign. Nine out of 10 – 125 in total – gave to Democrats and liberal groups; only 17 gave to Republicans, while two gave to both parties. The donors include war correspondents who gave while embedded or on the war beat, The New York Times’ ethics columnist and several news anchors who crusaded and signed petitions against the war.

Adding insult to self-injury, every single one of these donors – who work in an industry that crusades for openness, disclosure, and transparency – failed to inform their viewers, readers and bosses of their political activities.

So much for “Sunlight is the best disinfectant.”

Hi! This is Phillip Chambley! Former 5 year market research interviewer/analyst. Also, author of "Secrets of paid on-line surveys." I am writing to you and telling you more of the "Secrets" of how to make more money with paid on-line surveys! Here are some more helpful tips!

The four main ingredients of surveys? Age, Gender, Occupation, & Race.

1. Age. This is the most important factor of any survey! In other words, "How much does a teenager spend at the grocery store as opposed to his 44 year old mother! I think this answer is obvious! Naturally market research is aimed towards the consumer of these products. However, many surveys are sent to children under 18 with adult supervision, usually regarding video games, clothing, cosmetics, etc. You must be 18 years or older to join any market research company. Also, please remember that when they have sent you a particular survey, you have been chosen because of your age first. Please put in the exact age you signed up for on this particular email address! If you have 8 different email accounts, this can be confusing sometimes, write down the age, and occupation of each email account.

2. Gender. This is second most important factor for being selected. A female will most likely purchase cosmetics, whereas a male may be more interested in sports, which is usually surveys about sports announcers, sports TV commercials, beer, etc.. Females are normally the persons that purchase the most groceries, or purchase children's clothes. etc. Believe it or not, females receive more surveys than males!

3. Occupation. The third most important factor of being selected for surveys. If you work in Information Technology and have the power to purchase these products, you will be selected for some really high paying surveys, anywhere from $10.00 to $75.00. The higher paying surveys normally last about 30 minutes. They will afterwords analyze your answers and decide whether or not you qualify for other surveys in this field. You will still get paid. Like I said before, if you are in the food industry, you will most likely not receive any surveys about food. If you are a business director whom has the authority to purchase computers and office products, you will be selected to participate in these product surveys. A person whom works in lawn care will not be chosen to participate in lawn care products, which this past year I have completed a lot of surveys on these products.

4. Race. No, survey companies are not prejudice! They just want to know what products human beings all across the world are purchasing! This lets the advertising market know who, what, when, where, and how to advertise a product! Some races purchase more of a certain product than others. Through market research surveys, this will let them know ahead of time what results they can expect. Which is the whole purpose of market research to begin with.

5. What are profiles and demographics! Sounds complicated! It's not! It's actually very simple. When you join any survey company they will ask you what your personal interest are, such as: Hobbies, computers, automobiles, information technology, internet experience, credit card use, (they will never ask for numbers), do you read books, do you read magazines, do you play video games, do you eat cereal, etc. Always be sure to complete all of your profiles when you join to ensure you receive more surveys." Its kind of like a computer dating service", when you enter all this information into the computers database, and a market research company has a survey available that matches your profile, you will be contacted. All personal information is kept strictly confidential and never sold to any third parties. If you are not sure, read their privacy policies. Remember these are actual "legitimate" market research companies.

6. What is Quota? This is the number of respondents chosen or selected to participate in surveys. Each survey will be sent to different ages, gender, occupation & races. From what I've seen on the internet, it's usually between 1000-1500 people per survey. Thats the reason why high paying surveys fill up quickly. Considering the fact that survey companies like gozing.com have over 4.8 million members! Always look for the high paying surveys first!

7. The signing up process? Once you log in to the survey company, you will see two different areas, join and members, click on "join". This will take to the demographics page where you will enter all of your contact information, age, gender, occupation, race, mailing address, phone number (optional), household income, computer experience, etc. Note: Over the years I have noticed that household incomes that make approx. $100,000.00 per year do not receive very many surveys as opposed to a household income of $50,000.00. Most likely because people that make more money just don't have the time, or the surveys pay too small amount of money for them to become interested. Also, please be sure that this will be your your continuous occupation during your surveys. If you change your profiles at any time, it normally takes the computer about two weeks to catch up, and this also looks like fraud, the computer will sometimes spot this. In other words, be absolutely 100% sure about your age, & occupation before you sign up.

8. How do I get paid through points? Some survey companies will pay you through accumulating points. On the average, 1000 points is the same as $10.00. Once you accumulate this many points, click on rewards, and follow through the instructions to get paid by check or sometimes paypal. Some companies will reward you with gifts, which are not too bad. These particular companies have lots of surveys which are very interesting!

9. Making money off referrals? This is the easy part of survey companies! You can actually get paid when you refer your friends and they complete surveys, or even just join a survey company and complete their demographic process, which takes about 15 minutes!

Thanks!

Most people know credit card companies as high-fee very profitable companies. They have to be making money - after all they sent 20 credit card offers out for every person in the United States last year! Although credit card companies are multibillion dollar industries, there is a small percentage of individuals who have figured out how to make money off the credit card companies.

It's called credit card arbitrage, and here's how it works. There is so much credit available, credit card companies are willing to offer people with good credit a very large credit line, with an introductory grace period of over a year at 0% interest and a 0% fee to transfer a balance onto it. These savvy consumers are making use of these cards, often more than one.

They will sign up for these cards and put the money from the card in a high interest money market savings account. Money market accounts earn about 5% right now. So if you borrow money for 12 or 18 months at 0% and lend it out at about 5%, you are getting a pretty big spread. Once the credit card introductory term is nearing an end, the credit card arbitragers will write a check and pay off their balance with the initial principle that they had borrower, keeping their 5% spread.

Let's look at an example. Let's say that you get a $50,000 credit line with an introductory rate of 0% for 12 months. If you took out the $50,000 and put it in a high interest savings account earning 5%, you would make $2,500 in that year based on the differing interest rates!

If this is such a great thing, why aren't more people doing it? Well, dealing with credit card companies often involves risk. Some people play the arbitrage game and come out quite well and profitable from the situation. Others don't know that it can be done. While others are more adverse to risk and don't want to play that game. Some credit card companies have been "playing games" with their consumers with numerous provisions to where they can increase your interest rate for any number of things, such as if you have too much credit, or defaulted on a loan at another bank! This is what is called a "universal default" provision, and they're growing. If you want to play the arbitrage game, you had better know what you are getting your self into; otherwise you will be in a world of hurt.

Make Making Money

Wait, didn’t Rachel Maddow assure us on Friday that, unlike those mercenary wingnuts at Fox News who let Republican guests pitch donation URLs on the air, MSNBC is “not a political operation”? Six full minutes of fact-checkin’ fun here via Johnny Dollar, who not only spent hours piecing this lowlight reel together but has an accompanying post delving further into the hypocrisy. Somehow, Hannity and Palin raising money for conservatives is qualitatively different from Ed Schultz and Harold Ford doing the same for liberals. Which, I guess, is true: When Hannity and Palin push their side, they’re playing politics, whereas when Schultz and Ford push theirs, they’re making news. Please do take time to read his post and watch the clip; I promise, you’ll enjoy every minute.

As for the return of the modern-day Murrow to his perch atop Serious Newsman Mountain, this is simply too good not to be true:

“Keith is furious about the way this has all been handled and insisted that MSNBC bosses apologize to him before he would agree to return,” a network insider tells me. “Keith sees himself as the star of MSNBC, the person who put them on the map and discovered fellow network anchors Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell. To be treated like this by the network he helped shape, he considers disgusting.”…

“Keith clearly won this battle. Not only has he got the bosses to say sorry, but he’s also got the company to review its ethic rules,” a friend of Keith’s tells me. “You watch — his rating on Tuesday when he returns will be bigger than ever, giving him even more power at MSNBC.”

Jeff Bercovici at Forbes declares that this cements Olby’s status as the most powerful man at MSNBC, the thought of which seems to have Ace feeling depressed but which makes me perfectly happy. Remember, this is a guy whose buffoonery is such that even some JournoListers are left cringing at it. MSNBC’s hyperpartisan election night coverage was straight out of the Olby playbook, and predictably so alienating to everyone except far-left liberals that more than one TV critic acknowledged with teeth gnashed that Fox’s coverage was more balanced. Why wouldn’t you want him in charge? They should make him program director and give him extra airtime so that he doesn’t have to pare down his lists of who’s worse than Al Qaeda due to time constraints. And besides, as I said on Friday, his suspension was stupid to begin with. All’s well that ends well!

Olbermann Suspended Without Pay From MSNBC After Making Political Donations To Democrats

Today, Politico reported that MSNBC host Keith Olbermann made political contributions to three Democratic candidates — Kentucky senate candidate Jack Conway and Arizona House members Raul Grijalva and Gabrielle Giffords. Following the story, MSNBC President Phil Griffin released a statement this afternoon stating that Olbermann has been suspended without pay:

I became aware of Keith’s political contributions late last night. Mindful of NBC News policy and standards, I have suspended him indefinitely without pay.

MSNBC’s policies governing its employees states:

Anyone working for NBC News who takes part in civic or other outside activities may find that these activities jeopardize his or her standing as an impartial journalist because they may create the appearance of a conflict of interest. Such activities may include participation in or contributions to political campaigns or groups that espouse controversial positions. You should report any such potential conflicts in advance to, and obtain prior approval of, the President of NBC News or his designee.

It’s unclear what harm Griffin determined resulted from Olbermann’s contributions. Politico noted that Olbermann donated to Grijalva on the same day that Grijalva appeared as a guest on his show. In his defense Olbermann said, “I did not privately or publicly encourage anyone else to donate to these campaigns, nor to any others in this election or any previous ones, nor have I previously donated to any political campaign at any level.”

Atrios reports that Pat Buchanan, a very frequent guest on MSNBC and an official contributor, has also made a number of donations to Republican candidates.

Meanwhile, Steve Benen observes that, while Olbermann made his donations in a personal capacity, News Corp. — Fox News’ parent company — “made multiple undisclosed donations to the Republican Governors Association, totaling at least $1.25 million, in addition to a $1 million contribution to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for its pro-Republican election-year activities. Fox News has helped GOP candidates raise money on the air; Fox News personalities are featured guests at Republican fundraisers; while other Fox News personalities continue to help generate financial support for Republican candidates now, even after the elections.”

Make money doing what you love if you are a writer by writing for Elance. And you won't just make money; you will make more money by writing for Elance than some of the other online writing sites. So if your goal is to make money writing, Elance lets you try their services for free--every month.

How Can I Make More Money at Elance?

Making more money at Elance is easy. Unlike online writing sites like Demand Studios, Bright Hub or Helium, you don't have to apply to write for Elance. So you don't have to suffer a bruised ego experience just to try them.

You just sign up for their basic, no cost, service and receive the ability to apply for three jobs a month. They call it "bidding" and you have to use the "connection" points they give you to do it, but it is like using play money. You bid a job, which takes one or more of your connection points (which they have given you anyway), and you are either awarded the job or someone else gets it.

How Does It Work?

After you search the many job opportunities at Elance you pick the ones you want to "bid" on. You place your bid and then wait to hear back whether you were awarded the job or not. If you are, you begin the process of completing the assignment. After the assignment is done, you either invoice the client (or if you are like me, since I always use their escrow payment process) you just send the request for your money.

Things to Know While Trying to Make More Money

Just like with any writing site where you are selling your writing services, you need to take precautions not to get "ripped off" and Elance is no exception. When you began looking for jobs at Elance you might want to stipulate that you won't accept any assignment from a client unless it is Escrow paid.

Requiring escrow protects you from anyone trying to get your work for free. Elance acts as the mediator--reading over the agreement both the client and provider (writer) agreed to before the assignment was awarded and they determine who is in the wrong and if you should be paid or not, if there are any disagreements.

And if they say the client is in the wrong, the client can't "stiff you" for the fee, because it is sitting in Elance's escrow account just waiting for you.

You can even refuse to take a job unless they pay you half up front if you want. But that will limit how many jobs you get offered too.

Make More Money: Diversify Your Talent

So what are you waiting for? Put your talent to work and make the most money you can from your writing career by writing for lots of companies. Check out Elance and take the plunge. They offer many different types of writing assignments: article writing, blog writing, business writing, etc.

And the best thing about Elance is that the sky is truly the limit in how much you can make there!
