Online forums and communities present a largely untapped opportunity for making money — at least according to Dan Gill, cofounder and chief executive of Huddler.
The San Francisco startup is officially launching today. It’s one of those weird launches where the company has actually been working with customers for more than a year, and is only now getting around to telling the media that it exists. Gill said he wanted to make sure the technology was solid before doing too much to publicize it and attract competition.
Community-building software is a broad category, but Huddler approaches the market with a specific audience and mission. It’s looking for popular, product-focused forums that are built on either vBulletin or phpBB technology. Huddler contacts the owner of the site, offering to modernize the forum and bring in more money too.
Gill gave me a long list of benefits that Huddler can offer over older platforms. It gives the sites a makeover, so they look a bit less old-fashioned, not to mention more advertising-friendly. It optimizes the pages for search engines, and also makes them easier to share through Facebook Connect. And all the software is hosted online, rather than installed on someone’s computer, which means there’s less hassle for whoever’s managing the site.
Financially, there’s not much risk to the forum owner, since the software is free. Huddler is only paid by through a percentage of the increased revenue that it brings to a site. That revenue boost comes in a number of ways, Gill said — since the sites are product-focused, Huddler creates a product page with a link where visitors can buy the item in question. It also allows companies selling related products to create their own pages on the forum and engage with the community. And of course the sites can run advertising.
The transition to Huddler can be a challenging one because of the technology issues, as well as the likelihood that change will upset some forum members. Gill didn’t offer any details, but he hinted that he has seen his share of angry comments from users who didn’t like a new forum. But Huddler has become more proficient at both moving content to a new site and preparing users for the change, he said.
There are now 24 sites using Huddler, adding up to a total of 9 million unique monthly visitors. The success stories include EpicSki, which saw a 70 percent increase in natural search traffic after switching to Huddler, and DenimBlog, which doubled pageviews in two months and is now bringing in three times the amount of revenue.
Huddler raised $5.5 million in funding from New Enterprise Associates last year. For now, the company is focusing on existing forums because they’ve already got the audience, but Gill said, “There’s no reason you won’t be able to start your own Huddles in the future.”

Part of that bug is buzzing because Mr. Noble had his ID compromised and phony FaceBook pages were set up in his name. Now, there’s a big meeting about ‘cyber crime’.
Don’t know Mr. Noble ?….. I actually think you do…….. Here’s something from Lloyd Bentsen (Sec. Treas. under Pres. Bill Clinton) on Mr. Noble’s past experience: Assistant Secretary for Enforcement Ronald K. Noble has conducted a comprehensive review of the adequacy of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms’ (”ATF’s”) procedures, policies, and practices, and whether they were followed during ATF’s investigation of Vernon Howell, a/k/a “David Koresh,” and his followers.

My two (and a half) cents: Looks like the recent exec order ‘change’ giving Interpol open access to America is starting to come into a bit more focus now.
Given the current governmental attitude for giving a ‘nudge’ to and sidestepping all things legal and Constitutional, my guess is (begin snark) none of the following is even remotely possible (end snark). However, inquiring minds want to know……..
Approximately when was Mr. Noble’s ID compromised and those Facebook pages run up ?
If the deeds were done after the exec order……. Hmmmmmmm.
If the deeds were before the exec order, life is beautiful - for about two minutes……….
That’s because, with all that’s going and the true Statist/Totalitarian power grab involving ‘net neutrality’, (to use the legal term) is it “beyond a reasonable doubt” this is not some sort of a setup ?………. Meaning that it’s within the realm of possibility that Mr. Noble’s ID was ‘put out there’ and the ‘unauthorized’ Facebook pages set in as just one more reason to force in ‘net neutrality’ and maybe more dire, for Interpol to actually begin operating here - not just being ok’d on paper to do so by exec order.
Think about it - really think - try and lose the ‘it can’t happen here’ idea……….. Let the extrapolations begin as to what truly is possible in the current socio-political scene through technology…… legally or otherwise.
To people like Cass Sunstein, Eric Holder, Harold Koh and our current president - plus orgs like ICR2P, The UN and others - there isn’t much more dangerous of an ‘international crime’ than published simple dissent that instantly goes world-wide.

If you are already a member of CashCrate.com or are thinking about making some extra money from home my beginner's tips are a great way to help you get started and making the extra money you deserve.
1. Your Best Bet For Getting Offers Approved
When you fill out offers they will go into your "pending" earnings until they are approved. Once the advertiser approves that you have completed the offer they will contact CashCrate and you will be credited. A great way to get more offers to approve is to visit the Forum section under "General Discussion" and go to the Sticky thread entitled, "Which offers approved for you today?". You can visit that thread here, and go to the LAST page for the latest offers that were approved for other people. Take note of those offers and if you haven't done so already, GO FILL THEM OUT! Usually if other people have had success with certain offers ... you will have success too!
2. Download Roboform
I know I have harped on this before but do yourself a HUGE favor and get Roboform. It is available for free at http://www.roboform.com . You only have to fill out your information once and from there it allows you to fill out online forms (i.e. Name, Address, Phone, Work, etc.) with the click of a button. It is excellent for trying to get offers completed quickly!! Typing in all your information over and over and over can be very draining after a while. Roboform cuts most of the hassle out!
3. Try For One Daily Survey Per Day
Sometimes it's tough trying to get surveys that you qualify for. However, do not get discouraged! Just come back at another time and try throughout the day to get one to go through. That $0.80 per day adds up and will help you make the most money possible during the course of a month.
4. Clearing Your Cookies
It can be frustrating when you have a lot of pending offers that haven't been credited to your account. From what I understand there are a few ways to help them clear faster. The first thing is that a lot of offers are through the same companies and if you fill out multiple offers from the same company they usually won't go through unless you clean out your computer's "cookies" between doing offers from the same company. I use a free program called Crap Cleaner http://ccleaner.com/ to clean my cookies. It works really fast which is a good thing.
5. Give Valid Information
Another thing is to make sure you always give valid information when filling out offers and always checking the email address that you use to make sure that you are opening confirmation emails and other "junk" generated by filling out offers. Sometimes advertising companies want to know if the email you gave was indeed a REAL email address and they will wait until you open their emails and click their links before crediting your account for an offer you did.
6. See Which Offers Work Best For You and Stick With Them
Try going into your offers section and seeing which ones have gone through for you. See which kinds and which companies have already gone through and try to find new offers from those same companies. For instance, if you did one that was called "Party with Vanilla Ice" and it went through you could try looking for another one like "Party with Chingy" and do that.
7. Always Check Your Email for Confirmations
One thing that has worked well for me is doing the offers that require you to register to a website. Once you register you will usually receive a confirmation email which you can then confirm and the money will normally go right into your account. I have had the most luck with those kind!
8. Get Those Referrals If You Can
CashCrate has the best referral system around so the more people you refer, the more money you will make. Tell your friends and family about CashCrate! Just remember not to spam. Don't post your referral link all over your myspace or send random people messages online. CashCrate has a strict anti-spam policy and if you are caught violating the terms your account will be deleted! Only refer to those who are interested in making extra money online.
